Well, believe it or not, I think this is my first post here on our Blog. I don't have as much to say as Amber, and I will probably share more photos than her!
So, let's start off with the kids - They LOVE to ride the horses. Sophie especially. I will have to get a video of her trotting on Annie, because she just laughs uncontrollably! She seems so comfortable and confident up there too.

Sophie all on her own! |

They all help prepare the horses, brush and clean them.
House Progress:
The house is going well! Last week, we all enjoyed watching the contractors lay the foundations.

Foundations |
 |
Soph and Tom needed a seat to sit on to watch, so they made one together out of offcuts! |
 |
It worked well for about 10 minutes |
 |
But after 10 minutes; boys will be boys, and play in the dirt! |
 |
The Next day, they came and formed and poured the Frost walls (4' high walls that are buried to keep the frost from freezing the foundations). Cement trucks are great fun to watch. |
 |
Here is inside the wall. |
Everyone helping!
On Saturday, we all pitched in and leveled the "crawl space" (mini basement) with 3/8" river gravel. In this dry climate, we will be able to use this area as a storage area and it will be frost free and dry.

Spreading the gravel |

Rolling out the Ag drain pipe. Here they call it "drain Tile" - not sure why. |
Sunday saw us put the first pieces of timber down on top of the Frost walls, ready for the floor Joists.
 |
Three 10 x 2" laminated for the centre beam. |
 |
Chip Board all around, on top of treated pine bearers on the wall. |
 |
Here are the floor joists - 29, ready to go! |
 |
Done with Sunday's work! |
Monday's Work!
After dropping off the kids at daycare after a yummy oats, yogurt and chia breakfast, Blake and Dad started work laying the joists. Blake was a huge help, carrying all the joists over, cutting the corrugations on the barn, and helping with the measuring. It got really hot, about 100 deg (37 C!), but we did about half of them.

Joists Half Done! |
Tuesday:
We finished off the Joists today! Blake again was a good help, and it only took 4 hours to finish them off.
 |
Good job Blake! |
 |
It was HOT! |
So - that is what we have been up to over the past few days! It has been a good start.
