Christmas Break 2013 (working on the farm…)

Having the family still in the US, I had plenty of time for family time over the Christmas break.  By family time, I mean working on the farm.  The project this year was renovation!  The old house sorely needed some TLC from the years of use and neglect.

It was a wonderful time to work in the fair weather with dad, mum, and the dog.

Roof DONE!  Hopefully this tin will last another 90 years. The tin removed was stamped from the 1920’s, out of Southampton, UK.

Watermelon time.

Early December 2013

Back in Australia, I again had time to sink my time into personal pursuits – work, fitness, fruit and family.

Immensely enjoying the Fruit on offer at the farm each weekend. Life cannot get much better…

Quick Trip back to US for Visa Interview – Late Nov 2013

Well… as it worked out, I had my Visa interview in Minneapolis on the Monday before Thanksgiving!  So I booked a flight, arriving Saturday evening.  We drove the 10 hours to Minneapolis on the Sunday, picking up Marvin and Blake from their deer hunting trip, for company along the way. They were successful on the first day and had a doe and buck all ready for the years eating!

We very gratefully stayed at Marvin's long time Pheasant hunting friends place – Thanks Tom & Patty!

The immigration interview went very well on Monday morning, with the officer saying… “so why didn’t you just go through a green-card renewal process instead of applying all over again...” (because I already had a green card previously).  To which I replied, “I would have, if I had known about it.”  She then laughed and said… “Yes, that’s a fair point”!

Later in the day, I got a text notification that the application was successful, and the green card was being issued!  Very grateful for smooth sailing with the Immigration Department.

But I also had some catching up to do with the kids!  They had lots of knew tricks to show me… like head-standing against their drawers.

Lots of fun!

We also had Marvin’s birthday to celebrate, as well as Thanksgiving!

House Progress:

While I was gone, Blake and Marvin finished up nearly all of the Sheet-rocking (Plastering). Thomas had fun showing me all the progress!

Then… it was back on a Plane, early Thursday morning (thanksgiving) for a flight back to Australia.  On the plane I sat next to a guy with a broken arm, collarbone and ribs. He was an Aussie heading back to Australia to get taken care of, because he didn’t have the money to do it in the states.  The mind boggles…

Working Hard in Australia – Week 1-3, Nov 2013

After returning to Australia, I was able to use my time to plunge full on into work.  It was a lot of time on the road!  Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong.  Along the way there were many moments to stop and admire the beauty one encounters in day to day life.

The poor car sat at the airport for what seemed like weeks…

4-IMG_20131115_2014597-1384835653105I managed to find some good food and drink along the way.  Working at the airport isn’t so bad at times…

In lieu of a family, I took good care of my mistress – Ms Pivot.  Here she is, learning how to cook and clean.  She sucks at it.

On Friday, the kitchen was delivered in 24 BIG boxes!  On Saturday, we installed the new kitchen!  Here are some pictures.

Drawers slide all the way out, and are soft close!

The last Days Before Dad Left

Dad left to go back to his Australia Post job on the 30th of October.  He will be coming back as soon as possible... either when he gets a local job, or when  the end of March comes 2014.  Here are a few photos to remind him of the play, fun and sweet kids he has, to hurry back to!

5 going on 15... Such a mature girl.

It couldn't be South Dakota without a snowy morning to see dad off to the airport!
