Well, I feel like I haven’t written in weeks, but it’s only been 2.5 so I’m not as far behind as I thought. That’s a relief. Now the only problem is updating you on everything without making it too long J.
The weekend of the 4-7 we made the long drive down to Denver. The kids did pretty well in the car, sleeping the first half on both the ride down and the ride back. The time in Denver was so much fun I didn’t want to leave. We got in about 9pm on Thursday and the kids were introduced to Stoli, my brother’s awesome dog. He was a bit overwhelmed by my children but they were instant friends. Friday morning I made it out to see my cousin Andrew and his family before heading out on a shopping trip with my friend Sandra. I forgot how fun it is shopping with friends! I’ll have to do it more often. After that we rushed over for Pizza at Mandi’s and met two new additions to her family. What a lovely family she’s made for herself. We had a great time. Then it was home for a Merlin marathon with a stop over from Steve and his awesome girlfriend Amy.
Sat was just as busy. First it was a long drive up north to visit with Crystal and her family. Then back to the house for much needed naps. Then a bunch of errands to arrive at Henry and Jen’s for a BBQ. Kristen and Justin were there so I got to meet their new baby and Kyle did make an appearance. Of course Henry and Jen and Jeremiah and Amber (yes my sister-in-law has the same name) so it was a good crowd, good food, and good music. The kids did great. I expected to have to leave around 7 but the kids were still going strong by 9. Of course they passed out in the car on the way home J. Then it was more Merlin. We didn’t get the whole season done but it was a good start. Blake and I finished it later that week.
Sunday was a slow morning of sorting stuff in storage and seeing how much of it I could fit in my car. I think I got about 1/3 of it so that means I get to take 2 more trips to Denver right?? Hehehe. Then I took the kids, with Jeremiah and Amber’s help out to Casa Bonita. This is a Mexican place that has cliff divers, and waterfalls, and great scenery, and little shows always going on, plus an arcade (the cave) and a gift shop. The kids had a blast. Unfortunately the food is….. um yeah. So about once every 5 years is all I can handle. We left about 1pm to arrive back at my folks about 9pm again. I took lots of scenery photos on the drive so if I ever run out of things to blog about, you will get those.
Of course during the week is boring, more school – though I’m down to 4 weeks…maybe 3. More work, which is getting busier, and more chores. On Friday Blake turned 12. He got to go to the Cowboy Supper with my mom and dad. It’s a fund raiser and late at night so the kids and I stayed home. He said he had fun. My mom donated a quilt that auctioned off at over $600. It was too dark to get many photos.
On Sat we took him and a friend into Spearfish (the local larger town) to see a Powwow. We first had cake with cousin Mitch and his fiancé Sonya. I did get a few photos of that. My mom and I agreed that next time there is a Powwow we would sit next to someone who could explain it all to us. The costumes were great though and the kids had fun running around. On Sunday we went to a Rodeo. I did get heaps of footage there, though I think I’m going to do a whole post to explain some of the things that those in cities might not be familiar with. My dad wasn’t impressed with the talent, but only being to two rodeos myself I thought it was fun. The kids had fun, the ate nearly the whole three hours. Have you ever heard skittles hit tin bleachers? It’s sort of a nice pinging, but we heard that several times as the kids dropped and picked up their treats.
If that wasn’t enough, home we went to meet Mark who made us a lovely sausage chili and then back to Spearfish to meet Amanda and her son Ethan for a night out at the movies for Blake. I think he can say he had a successful birthday.
This week is a little different as I picked Michael up at the airport on Monday night. For me, my schedule is pretty much the same, but the kids get lots of time with Dad. He’s keeping each one on separate days, so Sophie had yesterday, Thomas stayed home today, and Blake gets Friday. No big plans this weekend, just spending time together. I am taking him to lunch with a longtime friend and hopefully a tour of a company he may get to work at when he moves over here. We may have a game night with the cousins as well which could be fun.
Oh, while going through the photos, I realized the week between Denver and the Powwow wasn't all same old, same old. We actually had two snow days to stay home on Tuesday and Wed. I just did homework so you can see why I blocked it out. But the kids had fun sledding and making snowmen the first day. I got some video of that. The 2nd day Grandpa and Blake helped to pull them on the sled behind the truck. They didn't tell me that's what they were doing so I didn't get any video but the kids still talk about it. Sophie was even brave enough to go by herself once. Oh and another PS, my calculations were wrong, I am full week behind on updating the blog...sorry. I'll blame it on Micheal's visit :)
