This week has been a little more exciting than last week for my mom. On Friday we drove up to Bunya Mountains for a birthday weekend for Michael. Yes, I know it's early, but we wanted it to be when my mom could come. It was lovely, though I'm glad we had a cabin because it got cold at night! Friday we settled in and scoped the place out. We decided to do a large 10K lap the next day.
We started out by going the wrong way, so Kaye and David weren't able to catch up with us. Sophie walked the first 2k's and then she fell asleep in Daddy's arms. Thomas was asleep for the first 4k's. After the long boring beginning, we started to see creeks and water falls, and great climbing trees and wonderful views. For the middle stretch, Sophie did 10 minutes walking, 10 minutes being carried. We stopped twice, for snacks and a rest. The last bit Sophie got distracted by games and fun and walked the last 2k's on her own. I was really proud of how well she did.
Thomas was very patient with his slow ride. We did let him out each time we stopped. He enjoyed playing with the rocks and sticks and even tried to go swimming once. Blake of course did great. I was able to carry Thomas the first half, even with my bum back, and Dad and Mom traded off the last half. All in all it was a good day. We were home in time for a late lunch.
The rest of the afternoon I got to stay home and rest with Sophie while Dad, David and Thomas did a 'guys' hike, and Kaye, Mom and Blake went to check out the museum and other sites. Sunday we packed up and headed home, though Blake and Mom got to stay with Kaye and David and do another scenic hike.
Then on Tuesday, we took Thomas and Sophie to Paradise Country. It was great fun for them. They started us out, teaching us how to make billy tea and damper. Then we got to see a stock horse. After that we went to see them crack whips. One guys was so good, he could snap a twig in half hanging out of someone's mouth. They also threw boomerangs, and milked a cow. A sheep dog showed us all his tricks as well. After a few photos we made it over to the sheep sheering. Then to the Nursery to feed the lambs and up to see the Koalas, Kangaroos, and Emu's.
It was an action packed half day and the kids were exhausted. After a quick picnic and a stop at the gift shop, we made it home for naps. More resting today and tomorrow with a little shopping thrown in. I hope you enjoy all the photos.
Paradise Country - Thomas started a new trick of drawing in the dirt with a stick. Sophie was brave enough to walk up (and even chase) and pet a Kangaroo without mom. Sophie didn't want to feed the lambs though because they jerked too much. Thomas was bound and determined not to let it get away from him.
Hiking in Bunya Mountains - There were Wallabies all over the camp site. They were very cute and Sophie loved them. The views were beautiful. We hiked past several waterfalls, which made it more interesting for Sophie.
