17 Days till Christmas

Well, this week is all about getting things done. I finished my last regular quilt. I am doing one more tiny quilt out of scraps that's only taken me an hour and I will have it finished in another hour. I have gotten boxes for all the presents to be sent. I bought brown packaging paper to wrap them all up in tomorrow. I've collected all but 3 address I need and have stuffed and addressed all my yearly Christmas letters and they will be ready to go out on Thursday.

Blake has spring cleaned his room and rearranged it. He's starting to do the paper route all on his own. He's entered 2 color contests and we have plans to make some Christmas tree ornaments later this week.

We are trying hard to get into the Christmas spirit but it's really hard for many reasons. 1. The tree. The tree is very spare on branches, it's prickly and the branches go up instead of down. 2. The heat. It's so hot here. There is no snow, no hot cocoa, no scarfs and red noses. 3. Cooking. It's so hot here you just don't use your stove if you can help it. No Christmas cookies or cakes coming from this house. *sigh* I'm sure I will get used to it, but this year, I'm just hanging in there.

We did finally get to have Thanksgiving. It was delightful. We cooked a ham in the slow cooker. Mashed potatoes, garlic bread, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie completed the menu. It was still hot but we had a nice thunderstorm and even saw lightening hit the fence next to the house while we ate. We had postponed the occasion because our relatives were down greeting the new nephew and Thanksgiving just isn't Thanksgiving without family. It was well worth the wait.

Sophie has been to two Christmas parties with visits by Santa and she loves the parties, but is scared of Santa. Now that I think of it, he is pretty scary, but I don't ever remember being scared of him. I can't believe that Blake is 8 and still believes in Santa. I think we are going to tell him after this year. He already knows that being 8 years old, this is Santa's last year to deliver to him because he's getting too old now and Santa has to save his time (and money) for little kids.

Sophie loves to get my underwear and put them over her head. We have several pictures now. Don't worry, I make sure to leave a few clean ones around for her to play with so she stays out of the laundry.

Rocky found a new hidey hole, but Sophie unfortunately found him too.

Blake all dressed up for his end of the year concert. He did two songs with his class as part of the Christmas Story. One good thing about going to a private school....they can talk about Jesus there.

Sophie at her playgroup Christmas party. She loves to sit at the " big" table with the "big" kids.
