Leeds Castle

We made it to Leeds Castle just in time to make the last entrance time. This castle is set on a vast acreage that has beautiful ponds, gardens and trees. We had a good long walk to the castle itself. There were several ducks, geese, birds etc. It was so pretty we could have spent the whole day here (if it hadn't been so cold!). I bet it would be a wonder in the summer.

This is the outside of the castle itself, in the waning sun. The castle itself was small as castles go, only 24 bedrooms. This is considered a 'living' castle. The royal's were forced to sell it to Lady Baillie in the 1800's and she renovated it and lived in it till 1974 and now they still use it for conferences and such. I guess lots of peace talks take place here.

The Library. Jon and I were in Heaven. I told Michael I want a room like this in our house when we build it. I also told him we should shape it like a castle. He said ok, as long as he could make it out of mud brick. Wouldn't that be cool. I think we would be one of the only castles in Australia! Though it would probably only have 5-6 rooms instead of 24.
Drawing room. Again it was a little disappointing that it was all 1800's instead of Medieval times, but it was still neat.
There were two main bedrooms on display, Lady Baillie's and Catherine's of Aragon's. You would have to google these Ladies, they are famous for something.

Courtyard. It was actually really little, being the size of our living room, but it had cool little trees and a fountain so that made it all right.
Leah and I on the walk to the Castle. This castle not only had several ponds on the way to it, but was completely surrounded by water, just like a moot.
