Well, there is a lot of house this week - because we had a 4 day weekend to work on it! Lots was accomplished, as you will see...
Shingling! Here we are about 1 hr in. |
You can see a shingle there in the foreground - it is around 1000mm x 300mm, and you can see the change in colour where it overlaps to the next shingle. |
Each shingle gets 6 nails (big head nails, 'clouts'), certifying them for 110 mph wind. |
Both Marvin and I were at it , working on each end of the roof. |
I started making the deck frames in my spare time as well... |
Almost done on side 1, day 1. This is about 10am - we started at 6:30am. |
Close shot of the flashing, joining to the existing barn wall. |
We have ELECTRICITY! Marvin installed the panel, and since then we have put in some temporary outlets. |
I tied up the loose end of framing closets in the bedrooms! |
And we now have Central heating/ air conditioning ducting installed under the floor! These are covers to stop building debris falling in the ducts. |
All of the digging is now done - we have Water and septic installed. |
And, this greets us at the end of each day... |
More busy times building frames for the deck (veranda). |
Closeup of the edge of the shingles. They don't bother with gutters here - gutters just catch the snow and ice, freeze up and fall off... |
Inside shot of the house to barn interface - flashing on the inside. I don't think water will be running up these sheets of flashing. |
We finished the other half of the roof on day 2, and it took us 3/4 of the time of the first side. |
And, we have started to erect the decks! They are just bolted to the house, and propped up by 2x4's on the outside. We don't have posts yet. |
Seriously, this is what happens EVERY night after work... |
At the end of day 3, we have all the veranda frames up, ready to be decked! |
