On Tuesday we went on the 'Yellow Sub and Snorkel' Tour. We started on a fast motor boat ride out to the Great Barrier Reef. For those of you who know reefs, we went to an 'outer fringe' reef. We stopped at a little island named Bali Hai. We climbed onto a semi submersible yellow boat with windows all around the bottom half. It was a neat way for Sophie to be able to see the fish, turtles, and reef. The weather was very rainy on Hamilton Island, but the outer islands were full of sun shine. After our window tour, they gave us snorkel gear and let us go explore. I did get a short time just to say 'I've done that', but I stayed mostly at the beach with the children. Sophie is really starting to love the water. Thomas doesn't mind it either, as long as it's not too cold.
The ride home was miserable, though the babies coped very well. We lost an engine so the 45 minutes turned into 2 hours and it was very cold, windy, and very rainy. A few of the waves washed over the boat as well. Sophie slept inside Dad's rain jacket. Thomas was inside mine, asleep as well, until the last 20 minutes when water found an entry and soaked him with very cold water. He did calm down after the rude awakening and was a very good boy the rest of the way home. Needless to say, we stayed away from water for the rest of the day.
Two things I forgot to mention on the last post was Jeremiah's night out and mini golf. On our last night there, Jeremiah and Michael decided to go out and check out the bars. They didn't find much and were home early. So the consensus is that we just aren't fun party folks anymore :( However, we are a blast from 5:30am to 8pm:). After we checked out of our apartment, we had a few hours to kill before our flight so we checked out the mini golf coarse. It was fun watching Sophie learn all about golfing. She mostly got holes in one (as she just walked up and put her ball in the hole) but by the end she was getting the hang of using the club.
Thomas slept through most of the golfing, but it was so hot (the only sunny day of course) that we stepped into the arcade to use the a/c. The only place to sit was on the car racing games. Thomas was instantly enthralled. He is a true McNaught in that aspect.
Videos and more scenic photo's to come.
