Last weekend was full of fun. Friday Blake had a Choir competition downtown Brisbane. They got third. Kaye came with me to watch and to help with the two little ones. Since we were already downtown, we decided to go to Ekka. This is like the state 4-H fair in South Dakota. There are lots of live stock for showing and selling, fun rides and games, and a few competitions on fleece and what not. They also have it set up so kids (and adults) can learn how to milk cows, see lambs born, sheer a sheep, etc.
The biggest hit was petting farm. They had several goats, sheep, lambs, and calves that were very tame. The children could pet them and feed them. They also had ducks and chicks and puppies. The puppies were sleeping, the ducks you couldn't pet, and the chicks...well we have our own. Sophie was scared to be let down in the big pen. As long as she was being held, she would pet the animals, but if you tried to put her down, she clung to you like a monkey. Blake had great fun of course. Thomas took it all in stride. He was very patient when the sheep came up and sniffed him out and tasted his socks.
Saturday Blake had two basketball games and then we did more work on the yard. I finally got my front garden completed with Blake and Sophie's help. Michael dug more holes and filled them in again (drainage). So besides the garden you can't tell that any work was done. We should be able to start the paver's this week and finish them next week, I'm so excited.
Sunday we took Blake to his first (and probably only) footy match. It was an AFL game, the Brisbane Lions vs the Adelaide Crows at the infamous Gabba stadium. It was interesting to see the pro's play after learning most of the rules when Blake was playing. I don't think I'm going to become a giant fan, and now that I've been to the Gabba once, I feel that I can say I've been and don't need to go again. We did have seats right behind the goal posts! Each quarter the teams changed sides so half the game it was for our team and half was for the other team. They took the nets down so the ball came into the fans at each kick. It was quite interesting. Of course the ball always had to go back, you didn't get to keep it.
Sophie continues to show us new fashion statements. We are also out of nappies now. We still have some accidents but are making great progress. We were home sick this week with conjunctivitis and colds as well as potty training so nothing interesting has happened since Sunday.
New fashion trend. She purposely miss matches her shoes and socks and she still loves her skirt.
My new garden. It will look better once the plants grow and flower. As you can see, the rest of the place still needs a lot of work!
People thought I was funny. I would push the stroller (pram) around till I found an animal that wasn't moving, put the stroller next to it and snap a shot. I think Thomas was secretly laughing at me too.
Sophie getting braver with Big Brother and an non moving animal.
"It's scary in here. Save me K-ma!"
He never did smile for us. He was concentrating too hard.
