I don't think I've ever waited so long to do a blog! It's been nearly two weeks. Shame on me. I kept waiting for the other computer to be set up so I could post video's. It's still not done, but I know going into the weekend, I won't have time to do another entry till Monday or Tues. So here's a quite update to keep everyone up to date.
We are still moving in and getting settled. Yes I know, it's been nearly three weeks. However, when it's your own house, there are things that you can change and adjust! I am making curtains like my mom used to do in my youth. You know, when she did it, she made it look so easy! I am making roman blinds. For those of you that don't know what they look like, see the pictures below. I think I have come up against every problem Imaginable, but as soon as I say that something else will happen.
The first task was trying to collect everything. The pulley's and lock pulley's are now plastic, which was discouraging. The lock pulley's will only hold 4 strings when my average curtain has 7-9. So I have to have my mom send me some. The weighted bars to pull them down again were found to be $16 each! They didn't have any of the material listed so I had to guess and improvise. The little loops were out of stock and not coming in any time soon. I ended up going to 8 stores in 5 hours to finally find some. *sigh*. And this is all before I started sewing. The sewing went pretty well considering.
Since I'm not using quilting material, I had to sew 4 in strips in the backing. Do you know how are it is to sew in a straight line? Oh and the cutting! The material is too think and too big to use my size tools like I do with quilting so I'm using a square and trying to get an even, straight, square curtain and it doesn't always work out right. The first time I got all the loops on (54 of them) I was so excited just to find out my top material had slipped and gathered and I had to take them all out and do it over again. The magnets....oh whoa is me. The first set of magnets I got were not self adhesive. So we did the dirty work of pulling the backs off anyway and they stuck just enough to be good. Then I got adhesive magnets and they didn't stick at all! I ended up having to go buy glue to stick them on with.
I finally got Sophie's done after two days work. (My mom can get one done in an hour!) And I figured the next one would be quicker and easier since I know all the tricks now. Well it might have been, except Blake wanted the same material as in his old room. I though fine, I'll just cut the seams off and go with it. Nope, it wouldn't have been big enough. So I spent the first few hours of yesterday morning ripping out seams. His should be done tomorrow.
In other news, Michael is half done with the desk. Those that are just now tuning in, I'll update you. This house is so tiny that we have no where to put a desk with our computer on it. Right now we are making do with a lap top. So, his plan was to move the cabinet in the laundry, mount the dryer on the wall (which is common here) and use the dryer space and build a desk there. He has it nearly done now. Though when I went to download photo's today I realized I took all video's and I can't upload them till the computer is back up and running. So next week you should have lots of good stuff!
Blake is doing well at school. He's got two weeks left of AFL and has fit in with his new team well. He also gets to swim for a full hour now on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sophie is nearly walking. She has taken 8 steps for her longest walk. Her first birthday and our house warming party will be combined this Sunday. My mom gets to (hopefully it will work) watch her open presents over the webcam. Tomorrow we get to do lots of yard work and bake a cake and then Sunday morning we will clean the house to be all ready. The nice thing about having a little house is that you can clean the whole thing in about 2 hours.
Sophie is growing and learning so much. I can't wait for you to see all the new video's. She tries to dress herself now, she has a trike, a new walking toy. She loves to play with our wallets and purses. She still isn't talking yet, but that will come. I will also have a tour of our house for next weeks post.
Cool back yard huh.....Oh wait, look at the curtain! heheh. Plus our yard is all to the side and the front.
