Whew, what a busy week. Things have really been moving along here. I'll tell you all about last weekend last because I have tons of pictures to go with that. As for this week, it's been a doosy. Blake was sick and home from School on Monday and Tuesday. Sophie was also feeling down and very whiny, clinging, and fussy. Needless to say, hardly anything got done. A lot has been happening though.
Our house projects are coming along nicely. Since insulation was not a requirement when our house was built we don't have any. However, now it is manditory when a new house gets built. The government is giving us up to $1600 to insulate our roof. We got two quotes and both were under that amount so on Monday they are going to install it. We interviewed a few builders to do an extension. Currently our house is 3 bedroom, 1 bath. We are going to make it 4 bedroom, 2 bath. "Michael, is handy, why don't you do it yourself?" I wish we could, we would save lots of money. However, everything you build here has to go through council. If you put it through council and aren't a certified builder you can't get house insurance for 7 years from completion. And neither can anyone who buys it. Which means, if you plan on selling any time soon, or if you think you may have a hurricane or other natural disaster, you have to go with a builder. He is going to let us do some of the things ourselves to save money. He just has to check them and sign them off. So we gave him our deposit. The process takes a bit though. He has to have plans done up, go through council and all before he can start so it will still be about 4-5 months before it's all done.
We have a good start on our garden. Michael shoveled out the stables and brought home a trailer full of poo. Which I got the privelege of unloading today. Yummmm, I smelled good when I was done. Michael is getting a stump grinder to finish our palm tree expedition this weekend so we can start on his shed. I have finished the curtains in the kitchen and am going to work on my next quilt before I do the living room curtains. And we sold our old car. Which reminds me, I never gave you all pictures of our new car. Here is a link to one just like ours, cause I was too lazy to go out in the dark to take pictures for you.
Blake is done with AFL (Footy). He is starting baseball next week. He can't do basketball because they have odd seasons. He could either do baseball and footy, or just basketball. He also wants to try tennis for one school term. Michael hated it and I think it's boring, but hey, I don't see any hurt in letting the kid try it. Kaye (Grandma) and his friend Montana are really into it so he'll have people to play with.
At lastly, Sophie! Last weekend we went down to Murwillumbah and got to see our first ever Banana Festival parade! It was Sophie's first parade ever. I have made more comments below.
So I come all the way over here from the midwest and what is the theme of this parade! Wild West. *sigh* I just can't get away. More cowboys and indians. Ah, but they were cute.
They couldn't use horses in this parade so these creative people were pulling their covered wagon with lawmowers!
Got cowboys and indians and mix in a few Scottish. Or is it Irish? Either way, this one is for my sister.
This one is for my Grandpa Kraft. Ain't it cute?
Sophie looks concerned. Maybe it was the large banana that just went by.
"Wow, all I do is stand here and look cute and through things at me."
"Hmmm, now what do I do with this?" (It's her first sucker.)
