So the last few days have been uneventful but very full.
Sunday we had a lovely time with the neighbours coming to visit. I worked on a puzzle and visited the day away.
Monday the 16th we drove up to Brisbane to see how long the commute was to Michael’s work and then drove all the back roads back looking for good suburbs to live in. We went to several real estate agents and found that we just won’t be able to purchase yet. The market is really bad. We will have to rent for a bit. I also found out that they don’t really do apartments here, except next to the beach and those are expensive, so the good news and bad news is, we get to rent a house.
Tuesday the 17th, we had a relaxing day of doing stuff on the farm. Blake has started his home schooling so we worked on that as well. Nothing much to report.
Wednesday the 18th we travelled up to Brisbane to go to Michael’s work and fill out paperwork. While driving he finally realized that he was going to start work in a few days and the commute was nearly 2 hours with traffic and 1.5 hours without. The light came on and finally he started thinking seriously about finding us a home closer to his work. We were only able to see one house that day but did a lot of research about the areas and drove by some potential places.
Thursday the 19th, today, was a much better day. We saw four houses, one of which we are putting in an application and have a few more to look at before we make our final decision but are finally making some progress. We also went to visit the local hospital and ‘checked in’ with them. The last adventure of the day was me driving. I’m ok with driving on the left side, but driving on the left side, while shifting on the left with lots of hills is very challenging. We made it home safe with only two incidences. When I took over driving he was parked facing down a hill. In a standard, I first started rolling toward the sidewalk and then revved the engine a little too much to make sure I didn’t hit the side walk. Scared the poor guy walking by a little J. Then coming home, we stopped to get the post (mail) and I forgot to put the cluck in when I put the car in reverse and killed it. But other than that, nothing big or adventurous to report.
Baby update: The baby is doing great. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes right before I left. When I got here I had to go see a general practitioner who sent me to the OB, who sent me to a dietician. I go see her tomorrow. She’s going to give me one of those things to prick my finger to check my sugar levels. So far they think I can just monitor my diet and exercise and not need insulin, but will check me again after two weeks to see how I’m doing. We are ‘checking in’ to several hospitals as we don’t know which one we will be close to when I go into labour.
